What can you do for puffy eyes and dark circles under your eyes?
One of the most common problems women have as they get older and what they’re always looking for help with is a cream for puffy eyes and/or a cream for dark circles. If your eyes are a mirror to your soul, some people’s souls look puffy, tired and wrinkled!
But there are natural tips and tricks that will help besides finding the right eye cream.
The first is good old fashioned tea, caffeinated tea that contains tannins. Tannins act to tighten and are a mild diuretic. You soak 2 tea bags in warm water, then chill them in the fridge. Place a tea bag over each eye for 5 minutes and see the difference.
The second is cucumber. When your eyes are red and puffy, cut some slices of cold cucumber, lie down and place a slice over each eye for 5 minutes.
In third place is raw potato or potato juice.
Cold milk also works well, soak a cotton pad with cold milk and place one over each eye.
I believe it’s important to understand why we get puffy eyes and of course there are no simple answers. The answers are usually a combination of factors, such as lack of sleep, smoking cigarettes, excessive alcohol, pollution and allergies.
In Chinese medicine, puffy eyes are often linked to problems with the kidneys which are themselves linked to what we eat and drink. Too much water or too little water, salty foods, too much fat and dairy, refined sugars are all possible causes of puffy eyes and dark circles.
Try cutting them down or better still, take them out of your diet for 3 – 4 weeks and see the difference for yourself. If you’re thinking, “what am I going to eat”, then the likelihood is your diet has strayed away from fresh wholesome foods. It’s time to get back to basics; think of eating as if supermarkets and convenience foods had not yet been invented!
